What’s your company’s story?

AOT Technologies was founded in November 2011 by George Philip and Praveen Ramachandran, using a $15,000 loan from Futurpreneur. Schoolmates in university and friends ever since, the founders had always shared a dream of entrepreneurship and a vision to build a respected technology company that is a preferred employer for expert IT professionals. They seized the opportunity to immigrate to Canada because of the potential for innovation and growth offered by BC’s tech community.

AOT Technologies specializes in custom software development and has become known for systems integration through its work on various BC public sector projects. The company’s clients also include BC startups and large enterprises. Since its founding, the company has grown an average of 40% year-over-year. It now employs 27 people in British Columbia and 47 globally with offices in Vancouver, Orlando, and India in addition to its main office in Victoria.

Who do you work with? What are some interesting projects you’re involved in?

AOT Technologies worked with Synaptek to build a platform where BC patients can consult doctors via their mobile phones – reducing wait-times and improving access. Another project involved building an end-to-end food delivery platform for Moduurn, which allows the local company to compete with players like SkipTheDishes. AOT also just accomplished a mission impossible, 4 week design and delivery of the TimeMachine application for the Procurement Division of the Ministry of Citizens’ Services. In partnership with CGI, Team AOT delivered a complex, yet flexible Natural Resources Online Services application to streamline Natural Resources permitting for the BC Government.

Similarly, the impact of the work done for BC Public Sector and enterprises has been paramount for these organizations in the delivery of high quality applications that enable easy interaction and accessibility to BC citizens. The team takes joy and pride in the fact that their work has touched the everyday lives of BC Citizens.

If your team had a theme song, what would it be and why?

AOT Technologies is often consulted when projects are complex and deadlines are tight. For this reason, the score from Mission Impossible is a good theme song for Team AOT because their work is so often intense, high-pressure, and critical in nature. The team also likes the lack of lyrics, because they are less talk, all action 😉

What are some hopes and dreams for your company?

AOT Technologies hopes to establish a reputation as one of the most desirable local employers by providing excellent compensation, training opportunities, and benefits along with a culture that nurtures the professional growth of its employees. Why is Victoria a great spot for your organization?

Victoria is the perfect home for AOT Technologies because the tight-knit, inclusive, collegiate nature of its tech community and geographically-limited downtown core make it easy to collaborate with other technology companies. This collaboration lets the company bring together the diverse capabilities of various local companies to solve complex problems and take on bigger markets.

Many of growth goals of the tech sector help companies like AOT. Organizations like VIATEC, InnovateBC, and BCTech provide a support network that helps AOT to grow and also to give back by extending a helping hand to other entrepreneurs.

Finally, Victoria is the warmest Canadian city, making it possible to convince talent to relocate for AOT Technologies. This also helps the company with employee retention, and provides stable long-term working relationships that contribute to a good reputation as service providers.
